Project Description:
Current dental x-ray procedures use a rectangular, intraoral sensor that does not accommodate all patients, especially those with dental tori (bony protrusions in the mouth). Incorrect sensor placement can lead to flawed x-ray images and repeated x-ray exposure. SourceGuard flips the problem by having an intraoral radiation source and placing the sensor outside of the mouth. Through Monte Carlo Simulation and a tolerance stackup, we are confident that the x-ray source should provide sufficient energy for clear imaging and not contact tori. For future steps, we are filing a provisional patent, hope to complete real radiation testing, and continuing to iterate on our design.
